WHO WE ARE....
WHAT WE DO
The Connecticut Songwriters Association is an educational non-profit
organization dedicated to improving the art and craft of original music,
combining arts, education and community outreach since 1979.
Almost 2,000 songwriters, musicians and vocalists from 15
states and 5 countries have joined CSA since it was founded in 1979.
We have grown to become one of the oldest,
most active, and best known
songwriters associations in the US. CSA sponsors monthly programs, with
nationally known guest speakers, song critique sessions, and interactive
workshops.
We rotate meeting locations around the
State, including: Glastonbury, Danbury, Bridgeport, Mystic, etc. The Association produces songwriter showcases,
benefit concerts, and a series of
compilation recordings.
Our newsletter,
Connecticut Songsmith, has been published monthly by
Bill Pere since 1980.
As well as songwriters, our members consist of lyricists,
composers, vocalists, producers, musicians, publishers, & recording artists.
We actively encourage and facilitate collaboration.
CSA has been featured in the internationally distributed
Songwriters Market Book, as well as in media articles and magazines throughout the
State. Sheila Davis' classic book "Successful Lyric Writing",
includes a case study of CSA as a highly successful regional
organization. In partnership with community outreach organizations
like LUNCH, we have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for
fighting poverty and for providing essential human services
WE TEACH THE ART OF SUCCESS
SUCCESS COMES FROM OPPORTUNITY, AND OPPORTUNITY
COMES FROM INVOLVEMENT. BE INVOLVED!

RADIO: How to Get Airplay in this Corporate and Digital Age
Tuesday, July 7, 7:15pm at Wesleyan University,
Middletown. CSA is pleased to have as our special guest radio
veteran Franco Carofano. Like the rest of the music industry, radio
has changed dramatically in the last 10 years, and continues to
evolve rapidly, with satellite and Internet radio creating more
opportunities even as corporate takeovers of local radio has blocked
the old traditional paths of airplay.
How do you effectively get airplay in this new day
and age ? Franco has been a broadcaster for over 30 years. starting
his career at the legendary WAVZ in New Haven, where he interned
under some of the biggest and brightest names in the industry. He
worked with and learned from such talents as Willie B.Goode. Curtis
W.Hansen, Rick Everett Gary Wall, and many more. During his 21 years
at WQGN in New London Franco served as music director, general
manager, and host of the popular morning show. Franco is now
launching his own Internet radio station. How does the Indie
songwriter and artist tap into this new media outlet? Come and
learn, and maybe get your song chosen for Internat airplay.
This program is $5 for members, $10 for non-members
Critique Session to follow.
Bring multiple copies of typed lyric sheets.
