DIRECTIONS TO CAMP WIGHTMAN
for the
CSA SONGWRITING RETREAT

Where in the World is Camp Wightman??

The short answer is that it's in North Stonington, which is in southeastern Connecticut.

The longer answer is more confusing. Because the camp covers 200 acres, Camp Wightman’s mailbox is located in Griswold, Connecticut and our address (for GPS purposes) is 207 Coal Pit Hill Rd, Griswold, CT. The vast majority of the camp falls within North Stonington, but it has a Griswold phone number; however, if you look for us in the yellow pages, the camp is listed as being located in North Stonington .

DIRECTIONS: see below
For GPS purposes, enter 207 Coal Pit Hill Rd, Griswold, CT

Notes: Bottom line: You want to get on Rt 201 and just stay with it, no matter how it twists and turns, Coal Pit Hill Road is off 201, on a curve. Note that 201 is co-linear with Route 2 for several miles in either direction of Foxwoods Casino. Rt 201 splits off from Rt 2 at a light (also called Cossaduck Hill Rd at that point).

Note that when the directions below say 'a mile and a quarter up the dirt road', it may seem like a lot farther when you're on that road because you have to go slow (potholes) and you're really in the middle of the woods.

COMING FROM:

From 1-95 traveling North - take exit 92. Follow Rt. 2 West through the Rt. 184 rotary and continue about 4 miles on Rt. 2. Take a right on Rt. 201 and continue North about 6 miles to "Coal Pit Hill Road" and signs pointing to Camp Wightman. The camp is a mile and a quarter up the dirt road.

From 1-95 traveling South - take exit 92. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto Rt. 49. Follow Rt. 49 to Rt. 184. Turn left and follow Rt. 184 to the rotary. Continue a quarter of the way around the rotary to Rt. 2 West. Continue about 4 miles on Rt. 2. Take a right on Rt. 201 and continue North about 6 miles to "Coal Pit Hill Road" and signs pointing to Camp Wightman. The camp is a mile and a quarter up the dirt road.

From 1-395 traveling North or South - take exit 85. Heading North: At the end of the ramp you'll come to a stoplight. Continue straight to the second light where you'll make a right onto Rt. 138.

Follow Rt. 138 for approximately 4 miles to Rt. 201. Turn right on Rt. 201 and continue driving for 4 more miles. The dirt road leading to Camp Wightman will be to your left (slow down - it is a blind curve). The camp is a mile and a quarter up the dirt road.

Heading South: Make a left onto Rt. 138 at the end of the ramp. Follow directions immediately above.
